Our hearts go out to Young and the Restless star Tricia Cast, who is mourning the loss of her beloved mother, Mary Patricia Cast, at the age of 86. Tricia, who has been an iconic figure on the soap opera since 1986, took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news, posting a beautiful black-and-white photo of her mother from her younger days. In her tribute, Tricia wrote, “Rest in peace, dear mother.”
Tricia’s career began long before her role as Nina Webster on Y&R, with her big break in 1979 on The Bad News Bears TV series. She later starred alongside Jason Bateman on It’s Your Move and even had a brief stint on Santa Barbara. However, it was her portrayal of Nina Webster that cemented her place in soap opera history. Tricia’s performance earned her a Daytime Emmy in 1992 for Outstanding Younger Actress, and Nina became a fan-favorite character, especially admired for her loving motherhood.
Sadly, Tricia is now grappling with the loss of her real-life mother, who inspired the warmth and caring nature that Tricia brought to Nina’s character. Her co-stars from Y&R, including Michael Damian (Danny) and Beth Maitland (Tracy), offered their condolences and shared words of support on social media, showing how much love and respect Tricia has within the Y&R family.
This loss comes just a year after Tricia lost her on-screen mother, Sharon Farrell, who played Nina’s mother, Flo. Tricia had always considered Sharon a second mother, both on and off the screen. Losing two maternal figures in such a short time is undoubtedly devastating, but the outpouring of support from her friends, family, and fans proves how cherished Tricia truly is.
Our thoughts are with Tricia and her family during this incredibly difficult time. Let’s all send love and support to her in the comments.
